Our members are not only committed to excellent craftsmanship, but to being stellar citizens within their communities. We have a long history of donating materials and labor, and working with local suppliers to donate materials to build everything from dugouts for little league baseball, homes for Habitat for Humanity, and shelters for battered women. Our unions, in conjunction with our signatory contractors, founded the charity B.U.L.L. Session (see below). We are actively involved in the Helmets to Hardhats program to help our military veterans make a swift transition from active duty military service to civilian careers in the construction industry. Additionally, our locals open their halls at no cost for a wide range of community activities, from veterans’ job fairs to providing our facilities, equipment, and instructors to high school engineering and robotics classes.
The OSBCTC has participated in the B.U.L.L. Session Invitational Charity Events for the past 23 years, helping raise more than $4.9 million in donations for the community’s most valuable assets – our children. Portland area children’s charity recipients include Albertina Kerr Children’s Developmental Health Services; Doernbecher Children’s Hospital; Gales Creek Camp Foundation; March of Dimes; Providence Child Center; Randall Children’s Hospital; Shriners Hospitals for Children – Portland; Special Olympics Oregon and Wheel to Walk Foundation.
B.U.L.L. Session Invitational Charity Events Board President Tim Gauthier of NECA and Secretary/Treasurer Frank Wall of PMCA, present a check to the Portland area children’s charities with the total funds raised in 2012.
