Oregon ironworker among dead in Seattle crane collapse

An Oregon ironworker was among those who died Saturday in a crane collapse near downtown Seattle.

The journeyman ironworker lived in the Portland metro area and was recently married, said Joe Bowers, business manager for the local union that represented him.

Bowers declined to name the worker out of respect for the family but said he knew the man personally. The man had been a member of the union, Local 29 of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Iron Workers, for at least 10 years.
